Grading at Asoryu Aikido Club

When preparing for Aikido grading please note the following:
- Please ensure you have the required number of training days prior to applying for a grading examination
- Grading Application Forms should be completed and grading fees should be paid the week prior to your grading examination
- Aikido courses attended and work undertaken for the Club's benefit can be taken into consideration as training days towards your next grading examination
- Minimum age for 1st Dan (Shodan) is 18 years
- Grading examinations will be taken at the Dojo where you normally train
- As a general rule, grading examination partners (uke) should be of the same grade or a higher grade
Kyu Grading
Grading, Required Training & Contributions are as Follows:

1. | 8th Kyu Yellow | 20-25 days | £10 |
2. | 7th Kyu Orange | 25-30 days training since previous Kyu grading | £10 |
3. | 6th Kyu Green | 30-35 days training since previous Kyu grading | £15 |
4. | 5th Kyu Blue | 35-40 days training since previous Kyu grading | £15 |
5. | 4th Kyu Purple and White | 40-45 days training since previous Kyu grading | £20 |
6. | 3rd Kyu Purple | 45-50 days training since previous Kyu grading | £20 |
7. | 2nd Kyu Brown and White w. Hakama | 50-55 days training since previous Kyu grading | £30 |
8. | 1st Kyu Brown w. Hakama | 60 days training since previous Kyu grading | £30 |
Dan Grading
Grading, Required Training & Contributions are as follows:

1. | 1st Dan Black 1 Red Strip w. Hakama | 70 days training since 1st Kyu grading | £75 |
2. | 2nd Dan Black 2 Red Strips w. Hakama | Minimum 1- 2 years or 80 - 100 days training since 1st Dan | £100 |
3. | 3rd Dan Black 3 Red Strips w. Hakama | Minimum 2 years or 100 - 120 days training since 2nd Dan | £125 |
4. | 4th Dan Black 4 Red Strips w. Hakama | Minimum 3 years or 150 - 200 days training since 3rd Dan | £150 |
Grading for 5th Dan and above are awarded grades and are dependent upon the Aikidoka candidate’s commitment to Aikido, the Club, the Membership and our affiliates. Such Grades will be awarded by the Club’s senior officers and its Affiliate Association
